Step 1: Backing up the WordPress files
i) First, you’ll want to make a copy of your WordPress files by using the cPanel file manager.
ii) Once you’ve opened the file manager, you will need to double click on the “public_html” directory in order to access the website content location.
iii) Next, create a directory called “name-backup” to copy our WordPress files into by click on the “+Folder” at the top left of the file manager. You’ll then be prompted to create a folder. Then update the folder name to the name you have chosen. Once done, click “Create New Folder”.
iv) Then select the file/folder and copy them to the folder “name-backup” that you have created.
v) The next step is to make a “ZIP” of your backup directory. Click on the directory, then right click & choose “compress”. From here, you’ll want to choose the type or archive. We recommend choosing “ZIP”. Once you’ve chosen the type, click “Compress Files”.
vi) Once the file is compressed, you can download the file to your local system by right click the zip file and select "Download" option in it.
Step 2: Backing up the WordPress database
i) Click the “phpMyAdmin” icon in cPanel
ii) In phpMyAdmin select the database located on the left.
iii) The next step will be to click “Export” from the top menu. Choose “Quick”, ensure the options are selected as shown below & then click “Go”.
iv) After clicking “Go”, you’ll be prompted to save the mySQL database “.SQL” file.
v) Then the database will be downloaded to your local system.
